Toronto's Startup Fashion Week (SFW) will return Oct. 3 to 7

Fashion week may be over here in New York but's it's just starting up in Canada. We're talking about Toronto's Startup Fashion week. With a focus on fashion, business and technology, Toronto's Startup Fashion Week (SFW) will return Oct. 3 to 7 to celebrate and showcase local and international industry startups and professionals. The highly successful five-day event provides a platform for emerging designers and fashion-tech startups to increase visibility through networking events, conferences and a prestigious runway show.

Now in its third year, SFW continues to revolutionize the Fashion Week business model through unique programming and educational opportunities that attract prominent industry professionals as keynote guests.

This year, SFW is proud to present fashion authority Barbara Atkin, former vice-president of Fashion Direction at Holt Renfrew, as the keynote speaker for The Business of Fashion Conference on Oct. 4. Atkin will share insights and expertise on Global Trends in the 21st Century and their Impact on our Future.

Other event highlights include:

  • The Fashion Career Forum, Oct. 5 – Professionals across the fashion industry offer perspectives on careers and finding success.
  • Fashion Tech Forum, Oct. 6 – Participants can learn about the intersection of fashion and technology, and what the future of fashion looks like from presenters KLOTHED, Parlour Club and Daily Goods Fashion Tech.
  • The Future of Fashion Runway Show, Oct. 7 – A prestigious runway show highlighting five featured designers, three wearable tech startups and a collaboration with The City of Toronto and Toronto fashion brand Henkaa

Previous sold-out success of the runway show has sparked interest worldwide; this year, SFW will feature startups from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, San Francisco, San Antonio and Australia.

"We have a huge demand for our clothing from Canadian customers," says Annie Legoe, co-founder of Australian brand LEGOE.

"We wanted to participate in Startup Fashion Week to increase our brand awareness in Canada and hopefully get the label stocked there for our wonderful Canadian customers."

The LEGOE maternity collection will be featured on the SFW runway Oct. 7 at 99 Sudbury.

"I'm pleased and excited to once again offer a platform for startups in fashion and fashion-tech to increase their exposure to the industry," says Jodi Goodfellow, Founder and Executive Producer of SFW.

"Startup Fashion Week has, over the last two years, helped launch and accelerate awareness for 12 designers and more than 20 fashion-tech startups, and we are thrilled to continue to be a key driver in the success of the startup fashion industry."

SFW is proud to partner with Brands for Canada, a charity that works with brands to provide clothing and basic essentials to Canadians living below the poverty line.
